Boys Coaches
BEN BARCHEY, Boys Program Head Coach/Varsity Head Coach
In his capacity as head coach, Ben Barchey oversees more than 70 players on the varsity, JV and soph/frosh teams.
Coach Barchey brings more than a dozen years of lacrosse experience to his position. He grew up in Annapolis, Maryland and played lacrosse at Friends School of Baltimore and Bridgton Academy. In 2003 as the squad’s captain, Barchey led his high school team in points. That same year, he also played for the Under-19 Korea National Team, earning offensive MVP honors.
He was recruited and played at Denison University in Ohio for one year before transferring to Whittier College where he was a three-year starter on the men’s lacrosse team. Barchey played as a midfielder/attacker and was captain of the team in his senior year before graduating in 2009.
In his first two years of coaching lacrosse at LAHS, the boys varsity team won two Sunset League championships and advanced to the semi-finals and quarter-finals of the CIF playoffs.
This is Coach Barchey’s second year as the Head Coach for the boys’ lacrosse program and his third season overall coaching at LAHS.
CONNER SCHRYVER, Boys Junior Varsity Head Coach
Coach Schryver grew up in Ojai, CA where he played lacrosse for The Thacher School, earning Co-Captain and All-American honors while playing in his senior season for the Toads.
At Whittier College, he lettered all four years and Co-Captained the lacrosse team in his senior year along with Los Al Varsity Head Coach Ben Barchey. Following his 2009 graduation with a BA in Business Administration, Coach Schryver joined Los Alamitos lacrosse, coaching 6th period lacrosse and the Boys’ Junior Varsity team. Under his guidance, the JV team has compiled a 23-8 record over the past two seasons.
This is Coach Schryver’s third season with the Griffins.
DANA MOORE II, Boys Assistant Varsity Coach
Coach Moore grew up in San Diego has been playing lacrosse for 15 years. In the summer of 2006, he played for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes national team. Moore was also a member of the RC Starz club lacrosse team that won a Starz Cup in the fall of 2006.
He played lacrosse at Rancho Bernardo High School, where he was a team captain and led the team in goals and assists in 2007.
Coach Moore was recruited and played midfield/attack for four years at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania. In 2011, he was a part of the team that won a Division II National Championship, the first in Mercyhurst Lacrosse program history.
ALEC SLOAN, Boys Frosh/Soph Head Coach
Coach Alec Sloan is a versatile athlete and trainer who is in his rookie season as the head coach of the Boys Frosh/Soph team. Last season, he was in charge of strength and conditioning for Los A’s boys and girls lacrosse programs.
Coach Sloan graduated from Troy High School in 2004 where he played football as a cornerback and ran track in the 100, 200 and 400 meter distances.
After graduation, he attended Beloit College in Wisconsin where he also played football as a free safety and ran track, competing in the long jump, 100, 200, and 400 meter events. Sloan transferred to Whittier College and continued his extensive training for speed and strength, participating in Olympic-style weightlifting before graduating in 2009.
